West Plano I

Our client desired a master bathroom with timeless elegance and universal design in mind, combining form, function, and beauty. They wanted a highly functional bathroom that was wheelchair accessible without compromising on aesthetics. We expanded the bathroom by moving an outside wall that flanked a courtyard area, which was not in use, and enlarged all the doorways for accessibility. A large skylight and a small window above the shower were installed to restore natural light while maintaining privacy. Custom cabinets were added to the master closet, completing the elegant feel. The project posed some challenges, including matching existing brickwork, detailed lighting planning, redoing all the plumbing, and addressing the client’s request for more on-demand hot water. Universal design was emphasized in the symmetrical his and hers vanities, one of which was modified for wheelchair access, and a barrier-free roll-in shower accessible from two sides. The end result is a beautiful and highly functional bathroom that feels like a five-star hotel bathroom and showcases discrete accessibility.
